The Kirtan Rabbi combines a variety of tools to introduce Jewish Wisdom to an increasingly global, religious village. Kirtan Rabbi’s music is characterized by great energy, passion and melodic flow. He will lead us into the month of Elul with a velvety sound and spirit meant to prepare us for the High Holy Day season!
Rabbi Andrew Hahn, Ph.D. is known as both the Kirtan Rabbi and—depending upon which phone booth he exits—also as the Tai Chi Rabbi. He has pioneered Kirtan in the Jewish world, criss-crossing the globe to offer communal call-and-response chant concerts and meditation seminars. Rabbi Hahn earned a Ph.D. from the Jewish Theological Seminary (Conservative) and holds ordination from HUC-JIR (Reform). He counts Reb Zalman z”l, as his last, great teacher. He has been teaching tai chi and related arts for decades. He is resident faculty at Clal: The National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership in New York, where he has founded the not-for-profit Kirtan Rabbi Prayer Initiative. He also served as visiting rabbi for Metivta: a center for contemplative Judaism in Los Angeles. Rabbi Hahn has three musical CDs: Kirtan Rabbi: Live!, Achat Sha’alti, Nondual and a single, Shiviti. His fourth album, Hallel, is to be released this year.
