Dear all,
Hope this finds you well. It’s a beautiful fall day today, and I’ve spent some time studying, davvenen and holding Zoom meetings in the Sukkah! Tomorrow we will be holding special Shabbat morning services to mark one of my favorite (and arguably the least understood) holiday in Jewish tradition, Shemini Atzeret. (I’m not counting Tzom Gedaliah, haha).
We will chant Hallel, make the seasonal shift to praying for healing rain (so needed in so many places in our world, both literally and figuratively), and have time for a brief Yizkor, to recall those who have passed. What I most love about Shemini Atzeret is that it allows us the time to linger with the divine beloved. I will bring in a wonderful text on the meaning of lingering with the beloved, of holy basking, of drinking in the joy/the presence before separating, or returning to the everyday (and its forms of holiness.)
